Dear Susan,
Isn't
it amazing how communities have come together to support the people of
Haiti? We, in the arts, are also doing our part. Stage
theater is presenting a special extra performance benefit to raise
money for the victims of Haiti. This is an
excellent way to not only support a great cause, but also see
great art at the same time.
Although the recession seems to be letting up a
little, free events are always welcome. There is a fun one
this month- Maggie's Farm Theater and Community Education are
presenting a free Reader's Workshop this Wed at the Lenox
Center.
Thank you for continuing to support both your community and
the arts. We will get through this cold and
snowy February one concert or theater performance at a
time!
Sincerely,
Susan Schneck

Our Town: Voices & Verses seeks partners to host events
The St. Louis Park Friends of the Arts invites you to join us in our 2010 community arts project called Our Town: Verses & Voices. This
year-long arts program brings diverse community members together to
participate in a series of poetry focused activities. It builds upon
the first Our Town: Faces & Places that focused on photography. Verses & Voices program components include:
·Selection of a community poet (Diane Pecoraro)
·Publication of 12 Favorite Poems (residents favorites with reasons why)
·Hosting a Poetry Jam to celebrate National poetry month in April
·Offering
seven poetry workshops to develop lines of poetry that will be used in
the creation of a Renga (Japanese term for a community poem), and
·The
creation of a performance piece based on the Renga that will be
performed by young people at the Children First Ice Cream Social in
May.
There are three opportunities for involvement:
1.Hosting
a one hour poetry workshop at your site in March (resulting in the
creation of lines of poetry for the Renga). We supply the poet to teach
2.Organizing a group to attend a workshop at another site
3.Serving as a Favorite Poem submission site (potentially w/ a dedicated computer terminal)
We will select seven workshop sites by February 15 and workshops will take place during the month of March. Please let Sara know of your interest by then- info@slpfriendsofthearts.org or 952-928-6422. |
